Two European remote sensing (ERS) ESA satellites, ERS-1 and 2, were launched in the same orbit in 1991 and 1995, respectively. Their payloads included radar with synthesized image aperture, radar altimeter and tools for measuring the temperature of the ocean surface and wind field.
ERS-2 added an additional sensor to monitor atmospheric ozone. Two ESA satellites have acquired a combined data set extension for two decades.
